Define in advance what you count
A useful GEO report needs to distinguish between a brand mention, a positive recommendation, a link to the domain and a citation of a specific page. If a business appears only in a list of competitors, do not report it as if it received a purchase recommendation.
We recommend building a sheet with the question, the engine, the language, the date, the mention, the cited URL and a context note. Also keep the cases where the business did not appear. Otherwise you get an album of successes instead of a sample you can compare.
Build a fixed sample
Divide the questions into three groups: professional information, comparing solutions and choosing a provider. For each group, choose wordings that represent a real customer need. State whether the check was done in a new conversation, whether search was enabled, and in which country or language it was run.
Answers may change even without a change on the site. So comparing one question on one day is not enough to declare a trend. You can present an appearance rate in the sample, provided you make clear that this is a rate out of the questions tested and not an overall market share.
Connect it to visits and inquiries
Check identified traffic from answer engines in your analytics system, but do not assume every such visit can be identified. Moving between apps or a missing referrer may leave visits without a clear source. Google states that the AI features in its Search are included in the overall Web data in Search Console.
In the monthly report, show visibility observations, identified traffic and business results separately. As a hypothetical example, an increase in mentions alongside zero inquiries does not on its own justify raising the budget. The next action could be checking the landing page or adjusting the questions to a stage closer to purchase.
