Two kinds of visibility, one business goal
SEO is about improving a site's ability to be found in organic search. GEO is a working term used to describe improving visibility in answers produced by AI systems. A mention of the business name, a link to a source and a visit to the site are different results, so it is worth measuring each separately.
In the context of the AI features in Google Search, the official guidance continues to point to the regular SEO principles. This does not mean that every answer engine works the same way.
How to divide the work
Our recommendation is to start from a shared foundation: clear service pages, a consistent business identity, reliable sources and information that can be verified. Then build comparison and decision questions where the business has useful knowledge. There is no need to produce two nearly identical versions of the same article just to give them different names.
For example, an outdoor kitchen business can explain the differences between materials, installation conditions and maintenance costs. Such a page can serve a person searching on Google and can also serve as a source for an answer, but there is no way to promise that any of the systems will cite it.
Measurement that prevents false promises
In SEO we look at impressions, clicks, pages and actions on the site. In a GEO sample we can record mentions, links and the context of the question. These are not alternative metrics: a mention with no traffic may contribute to awareness, but it is not a sale that can be automatically attributed.
Choose a small set of business questions, record the engine, language and date, and repeat the check in the same format. Do not change the questions every month to show more successes. Tie the budget to a proven gap in content and foundation, and not to a promise of "first place in AI".
