A key event is not necessarily an inquiry

In GA4, a key event is an event the business has defined as important. Google distinguishes between key events and conversions used for campaign measurement and optimization. Marking an event as key does not change the meaning of the action that took place.

A click on WhatsApp shows intent to get in touch, but does not prove that a message was sent. A click on a phone number is not a completed call. Event names and reports should preserve this distinction.

Build a measurement plan by funnel stage

We recommend dividing measurement into interactions, inquiries and business results. An interaction can be opening a tool; an inquiry is a form that was successfully received; a business result can be a suitable meeting or a documented sale.

For each event, define the trigger condition, the data source and a way to verify it. For a form event, check the success message and that the record was received. For a purchase event, check the transaction ID and the correct value. Do not pass personal details from form fields to analytics systems.

Checks to run before the first report

Test one valid submission, one failed submission and a repeated action. Compare the events with the source system's data. A gap between two systems is not necessarily a fault: there may be differences in consent, attribution and counting settings, so document the settings before comparing.

In the report, state explicitly what is counted. For example: "form inquiries received" next to "WhatsApp clicks", without automatically adding them into a lead total. When the same person can perform several actions, summing events does not represent a number of unique people.
