When you need to build demand

In search, the user states a need in words. In a visual campaign, the business sometimes has to explain why the product is relevant before the user has searched for it. Google describes Demand Gen as a campaign type for activity on visual surfaces, including YouTube, Discover and Gmail, along with other placements depending on the product and settings.

In planning terms, it is not enough to move a search ad onto an image. The audience needs to understand what is offered, for whom, and why it deserves their attention.

What to prepare before spending budget

We recommend preparing several message angles: a problem the product solves, a demonstration of use, and relevant proof. For each angle, give a clear opening and one action. The landing page should continue the same story instead of opening a different topic.

As a hypothetical example, a new household product may be easier to understand through a short demonstration of use than through a photo of the packaging alone. A professional service may need a process explanation or a use case. There is no single format that fits every offer.

How to measure without confusing exposure with purchase

Decide the campaign's role: relevant visits, inquiries or sales. Watching a video may indicate content consumption, but it does not prove the viewer became a customer. Also check what happens after the visit to the site and the quality of the result.

In a pilot, set a spend limit and decide when to replace a message and when to stop. If there are views but almost no suitable visits, examine the promise and the audience. If the visits are relevant but there are no inquiries, check the page and the offer. Do not conclude from a fault at one stage that the whole channel is unsuitable.
